theory

teens / adults

Music theory is an integral component in functional musicianship, and as such, is integrated into the program of all piano and voice students. Theory can also be studied as a stand-alone subject.

Courtney specialises in teaching contemporary theory, equipping her students with a versatile and broad working knowledge for the current music landscape.

Standard topics of study can include: staff and chart reading, terminology and abbreviations (classical and nashville), form, meter, rhythm, style, keys and key relationships, major and minor scales, jazz modes and blues scales, intervals, chords, melodies, transposition, aural (ear) training.
